Who We Are and What We Do
The Middle Eastern Dance Artists of Hawai’i (MEDAH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Founded in 1989 by Dr. Peggy Murphy (Hazzard), MEDAH is the only non-profit group of its kind in Hawai’i devoted to creating and supporting the educational, cultural and entertainment aspects of Middle Eastern dance, music, related cultures and arts. Our diverse membership includes dancers, musicians, students, teachers, artists and persons interested in celebrating and learning about Middle Eastern dance and music. Every year, MEDAH sponsors several events and workshops, attracting knowledgeable, experienced, dedicated, and culturally motivated instructors to enrich public education and appreciation for Middle Eastern culture, dance, music and art.
Our Board
MEDAH is run by an elected Board, which is made up of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 3 Member at Large Officers.
Our Bylaws
MEDAH is governed by Bylaws, and Roberts Rules of Order. Each new member is given a copy of the Bylaws upon joining. This may be either via electronic transmission (email) or a physical copy. A copy of Roberts Rules of Order is usually present at MEDAH Board and Membership Meetings.
