MANDIRA SRIVASTAVA

Mandira thinks of life as a dance, with each person dancing to the tune of a different drummer. Born in 1965, brought up and educated in India, Iraq and the US, Mandira turned to healing with alternate therapies, about 20 years ago. She found her calling through this work in transformational healing and went on to complete extensive trainings in Reiki, Counseling with Transactional Analysis, Meditation & Movement modules, Colour and Crystal Therapy.

Over the years she has experienced and trained in various meditation techniques , along with understanding the importance of dance and movement to energy. She is professionally present as a facilitator for those who wish to find their own unique rhythm. She also serves as a Vaastu Consultant – the Indian form of Feng shui.

She teaches Meditative Bellydance at the Still & Moving Center.

Join international guest artist Mandira on Saturdays, January 19th – February 23rd! Come and discover how this ancient dance helps you to connect with the center of your being. Allow the rhythmic movements of the dance to bring you into One-ness with yourself and the Universe. Considered by some to be the most ancient dance in the world, belly dance a muscle dance originated by women for all ages, shapes, and sizes, including those who think they cannot dance! Energetic, fun-filled and centering! This module combines Hara awareness with dance, movement, breath work, catharsis, and creative visualization, making for a relaxing and meditative experience.

MEDAH (Middle Eastern Dance Artists of Hawaii) invites you to take part in the world’s largest international belly dance event: Shimmy Mob! The Shimmy Mob raises awareness for domestic violence and raises funds for shelters worldwide.

United, we dance using the same song and the same choreography, wearing the same t-shirt, sharing the same goals, on the same day, all over the world. Year after year, we strive to break the world record … and we do!

We invite women, men, children of all ages to participate.

About MEDAH:

The Middle Eastern Dance Artists of Hawai’i (MEDAH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Founded in 1989 by Dr. Peggy Murphy (Hazzard), MEDAH is the only non-profit group of its kind in Hawai’i devoted to creating and supporting the educational, cultural and entertainment aspects of Middle Eastern dance, music, related cultures and arts. Our diverse membership includes dancers, musicians, students, teachers, artists and persons interested in celebrating and learning about Middle Eastern dance and music.

Every year, MEDAH sponsors several events and workshops, attracting knowledgeable, experienced, dedicated, and culturally motivated instructors to enrich public education and appreciation for Middle Eastern culture, dance, music and art.

Sammie and Miko Workshop: We’ll Make Your Hearts Go “Dum Tek Tek” 4-5 PM

In this very special workshop, we will introduce you to some of the most common Arabic rhythms in Arabic music and drum solos! Learn the key patterns, how they sound with embellishment, and how to develop an ear for the transitions that make Arabic music so much fun! Sammie’s got the combos and Miko’s got the beats. Get ready to sweat!

Dayl’s Workshop: Continuing Introduction to ATS!!! 5-6 PM

American Tribal Style® belly dance is a celebration of feminine and evocative movements that are rooted in the earth. It has been designed to bring out the best in people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The dance is created through group improvisation using a common vocabulary of movements, steps and cues. ATS® combines movement from folkloric inspired dances to a fusion of modern and ancient dance techniques from North India, the Middle East, Spain and Africa.
