Tricks with Dayl and Jacky 4-5 PM: Continuing Introduction to ATS
In this session, we will explore more Tribal Tricks and Treats!
American Tribal Style® belly dance is a celebration of feminine and evocative movements that are rooted in the earth. It has been designed to bring out the best in people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The dance is created through group improvisation using a common vocabulary of movements, steps and cues. ATS® combines movement from folkloric inspired dances to a fusion of modern and ancient dance techniques from North India, the Middle East, Spain and Africa. For more information about ATS®, please visit http://fcbd.com/about/

In this workshop you’ll continue to learn the basic moves on which to build your repertoire! Open to dancers and movers of all ages, genders and abilities. All levels of ATS experience will be catered to!

Treats with Sammie 5-6 PM: Veil Short Choreography:
One of Sammie’s FAVORITE props, veil is a staple in any American Cabaret belly dancer’s prop diet! Though this short, but dynamic choreography, Sammie will introduce plenty of veil treats to keep you energized, challenged, and looking enchanting on stage! Fall in love with veil all over again and get lost in swirls of silk. A treat indeed! ♥

*Note: If you have your own veil, please bring it with you! Don’t have one? Sammie will have a limited number of veils to share at practice!

Instructor Bio and Contact:

Sammie (Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/SammieinHawaii/, email: sammieinhawaii@gmail.com)

Sammie’s love of belly dance began when she joined the student organization, Hill and Veil at Virginia Tech in Spring of 2007. For the rest of her time as an undergraduate, a Master’s student, and a Doctoral student, Sammie remained involved with belly dance as a way to stay active, relieve stress, and make lifelong friendships – things that she hopes to bring to UHWO students through the student organization, Bellydance Raqs.

As a dancer, Sammie continually seeks to challenge herself through participating in workshops and classes with a variety of instructors, creating new choreographies, and performance! She has had the amazing opportunity to take lessons and/or workshops with Malia Delapenia, Thana Tarab, Elena Faye, Sabah, Victoria Teel, Moria Chappell, Bagoas, Madame Onca, Petite Jamilla, Bozenka, and Frank Farinaro – all of which have played a role in her growth and development as a dancer.

While Sammie will always miss her belly dance family on the East Coast, she is excited to have a new belly dance family here in Hawaii, and to spread her love of dance even further! Sammie is currently available for private events and workshops.
